ROLE TITLE:  EMERGENCY COORDINATOR II

HIRING RANGE: $39,174 - $66,857

PAY BAND 4

 

The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for a Dispatcher position located at Division 7 Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.

 

DUTIES:  Operates multi-channel radio system.  Receives and transmits all information promptly, accurately and in a professional manner.  Answers emergency and non-emergency multi-line computerized telephone system.  Enters and retrieves information through Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) terminal.  Responds to inquiries and complaints and secures emergency assistance.  Contacts and requests services of wreckers, emergency medical services to include Med-Flight, fire services and other law enforcement agencies.  Operates a computerized information network terminal.  Makes entries, inquiries and retrieves information through the Virginia Criminal information Network (VCIN), National Criminal Information Network (NCIN) and the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) to be disseminated by radio and telephone.  Files messages properly and maintains the criminal history dissemination logbook.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be willing to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.  Working Knowledge of the Departments policies, procedures and regulations and geographical area within the Division preferred.  Working knowledge of radio codes and communications equipment.  Demonstrated skill in keyboarding to include Microsoft software applications.  Must successfully pass pre-employment testing.  Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the public and Department employees, especially under stressful situations; to work in a high pressure, high volume environment; to exercise sound judgment under stressful situations; to multitask; and to handle inquiries.  High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position required of the position.  First Aid/CPR certification preferred.  Must be eligible to apply for VCIN certification which requires either U.S. citizenship or having been a lawful resident of the U.S. for the past 10 consecutive years.
