The Virginia State Police (VSP) is expanding its tactical intelligence case support in Roanoke, Virginia. Accounts Payable Accountant

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a part-time wage Accountant at the Virginia State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. Candidates with prior dispatching training and experience may be hired as a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II), and the hourly rate will be $20.15.

Candidates with limited experience are hired as a Dispatcher Trainee (Emergency Coordinator I – pay-band 3, hourly rate will be $18.32). After satisfactory completion of a four-to-six-month training regimen, employees progress to a Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II – pay-band 4) and will receive a 10% hourly rate increase.

Experienced candidates who are not placed in a trainee status are not eligible for the 10% salary increase.

Equipment Repair Technician Install 

The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of State Police is seeking an Equipment Repair Technician Trainee for an entry-level position working in the Installation Facility. The Equipment Repair Technician Trainee will be working in an exciting, fast paced, family diverse, team-oriented atmosphere where attention to detail is key. The Equipment Repair Technician Trainee will primarily learn how to install, remove, and repair police, communications, and other electronic equipment in Virginia State Police vehicles as well as vehicles for 21 other Agencies. This is where attention to detail counts! Expectations include strong skills with, or the ability to learn how to diagnose, repair and service motor vehicles; the ability to learn to safely use shop, woodworking and mechanics hand tools; the ability to learn to read and comprehend automotive and equipment manuals, schematic diagrams, and other related written documents; the ability to process and report information through logs, work orders and laptop computers; and assist with shuffling vehicles, and keeping facility and Department vehicles clean and orderly. The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Senior at the Division 2 Headquarters in Culpeper, Virginia. Dispatchers provide law enforcement members with a wide variety of support services such as conducting driver’s license checks, vehicle registration checks, and conducting wanted person checks through computerized systems. VITA Coordinator and Billing Analyst

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS FOR CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT

The Department conducts a comprehensive background investigation and reviews an applicant’s suitability for employment on a case-by-case basis, considering the totality of the information discovered.

  1. Any felony conviction (at any age).
  2. Any illegal use of any controlled substance (illegal drug) listed in Schedule I or Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years or the illegal use of any controlled substance listed in Schedule I or Schedule II more than twice in the past 10 years. The use of any hallucinogenic substance such as LSD, PCP, or Psilocybin at any time in the past 10 years.
  3. Illegal sale of any drug or narcotic at any time in your life.
  4. A conviction of driving under the influence in the past five years, or more than one conviction of driving under the influence in the applicant’s lifetime, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  5. Active revocation or suspension of driving privileges in any state, if the position requires the operation of Virginia State Police vehicles.
  6. Any conviction that required registration on any Sex Offender Registry.
  7. Falsification of application with intent to conceal or mislead.
  8. Documented untruthfulness during applicant process.

Dress Code, Tattoo, and Body Modification Policy

All Civilian Employees must abide by the following policies:

Hair
Hair should always be kept clean and neat. Hair shall be of a natural shade and have no unnatural tones or colors. Spray-on substances producing an unnatural color or glitter are prohibited. Attention should also be paid to all aspects of personal grooming.

Tattoos
Tattoos on the head, face, nose, eyebrows, neck, or tongue shall be covered at all times while on duty, including during training, by utilizing commercially available cosmetics or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If commercial products are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in an official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Employees who routinely interact directly with the public as part of their normal job duties shall cover tattoos on all other parts of the body while on duty by utilizing clothing, cosmetics, or fabric covers made for the purpose of covering tattoos. If cosmetics or fabric covers are used, they must be of the same skin-tone color as the employee and be neutral in appearance. This policy applies whenever an employee is representing the Department in any official capacity regardless of whether on duty or not.

Body Modifications
Body modifications visible while on duty are prohibited. Body modifications include, but are not limited to:

  1. tongue splitting or bifurcation;
  2. complete or trans-dermal implantation of any objects other than hair replacement;
  3. abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, or nose;
  4. gauging or gradually increasing the radius of a surgically induced opening in the flesh in areas such as the ear lobes or lips;
  5. abnormal filing of the teeth; and
  6. branding or scarification.

Body modifications shall not include those procedures medically necessitated by illness, deformity or injury, when performed by a licensed medical professional.

Jewelry

  1. Jewelry, if worn by civilian employees, must present a professional appearance.
  2. Employees who routinely interact with the public as a part of their normal job duties may wear no more than two earrings in each earlobe and are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles, jewelry, or ornamentation to or through the nose, tongue, or any exposed body part (including when visible through clothing) while on duty.

Marijuana Policy

All Department employees are prohibited from possessing, buying, selling, using, or growing marijuana unless it is part of the employee’s official law enforcement duties.
